Designing the Koondoola Haven
Our process always starts with a thorough understanding of the job. The space was a well-used patio area that served as a bridge between the indoor living space and the garden. The challenge was to enclose it without making it feel like a cage. The Installation Challenge: A Full Day’s Work
The installation itself was an 8-hour job, requiring precision and expertise from start to finish. The first step was to properly install the anchor, a stainless steel rope which acts as a stable basis for attaching the netting and assuring there are no gaps. We attached our anchor both to masonry and the steel of the fence with galvanized fasteners and ceramic coated masonry screws. This anchor creates the perimeter and provides the tensioning substrate for the netting.
Once the anchor was securely in place and fastened every 500-600 mm, the meticulous process of fitting the outdoor cat netting began. This is where experience truly counts. The net must be tensioned perfectly—not too tight to strain the fixings, but tight enough to prevent any sagging or gaps where a curious cat might try to push through. We use high-tensile stainless steel components to secure the netting, as they won’t degrade in the harsh Perth climate, and galvanised ring staples. Furthermore, we had to carefully navigate around downpipes and existing light fixtures, custom-cutting the net to create the tight seal that our client had specified.
