The ultimate Future-Proof Enclosure
Cat Netting Woodbridge
This case study covers cat netting Woodbridge WA. Planning for a future furry family member is one of life’s great joys, and preparing the perfect, safe home is a huge part of that journey. For a forward-thinking homeowner in Woodbridge, the vision was clear: to create a secure outdoor haven before their new cats even arrived. This is where finding expert cat netting in Woodbridge WA became their top priority. They wanted to transform an unused side-of-house area into a safe and stimulating space, ensuring peace of mind from day one. However, the project came with a unique challenge involving a shared asbestos fence and the need to maintain neighbourhood harmony.
This proactive approach is something we see more and more. Rather than waiting until a new pet arrives, homeowners are choosing to ‘future-proof’ their properties. It’s a smart move that not only adds value to the home but also removes the stress of rushing an installation later. For this client, it was about creating the perfect welcome, ensuring their future companions could safely explore their new outdoor territory from the moment they came home.
Navigating Neighbours and Asbestos Fencing
Every cat enclosure project is unique, like in Wellard, where we recently created a solution for both cats and even a resident duck, the focus was also on tailoring the design to respect the unique needs of the household and its surroundings.
but this one, nestled in the leafy suburb of Woodbridge, required extra care and clear communication. The primary challenge was a shared boundary fence. In many Perth suburbs, keeping things friendly with the neighbours is paramount. The client was incredibly considerate, wanting to ensure any installation would have zero impact on the adjoining property. This became even more crucial when we learned the neighbour had already installed wooden fence toppers on their side of an old asbestos fence.
Furthermore, the presence of an asbestos fence presented a significant safety consideration. Asbestos is a hazardous material that should never be drilled, cut, or disturbed, as this can release dangerous fibres into the air. The safety of our team and the residents is our absolute highest priority. Therefore, any solution had to completely avoid attachment to the asbestos fence itself. This ruled out standard installation methods and required a more innovative approach to create one of our secure Perth cat enclosures.
The client first needed to have a conversation with their neighbour to get approval before we could proceed. We provided them with a clear explanation of our proposed non-invasive method, which gave them the confidence to have that chat. Happily, the neighbour agreed, and we were able to book the job, ready to deliver a solution that kept everyone happy.
A considered solution
With the neighbour’s blessing and a clear understanding of the site’s constraints, our team got to work. Our goal was to build a robust, fully sealed cat enclosure that respected the property boundaries and, most importantly, did not disturb the asbestos fence in any way. This required a couple of clever, professional techniques.
The Non-Invasive Fence Attachment
The key to the main enclosure was how we handled the shared fence line. Since we couldn’t drill into the asbestos, we focused on the wooden fence toppers the neighbour had installed. Our solution was to attach our netting supports to the reverse side of these toppers. This is a delicate process that requires significant experience. The tension of the cat netting, if applied incorrectly, could easily warp or damage the wooden slats.
Our installers used their expertise to carefully balance the tension across the entire structure. This ensured the 19mm, low-visibility netting was taut and secure enough to prevent any escapes, while placing no adverse stress on the neighbour’s fence toppers. The result was a secure boundary that was practically invisible from the neighbour’s side, achieving the client’s goal of a respectful installation.
The Zipper Door
Every enclosure needs a secure access point. Typically, a zipper door would be attached to a wall or fence. Here, that wasn’t an option. Attaching it to the house on one side was fine, but the other side ran along the asbestos fence. To solve this, we implemented a simple yet highly effective solution. We drove a sturdy, 20mm galvanized steel pole deep into the soil right beside the fence line. This created a solid, freestanding anchor point completely independent of the hazardous fence. We then securely attached the zipper door frame to this post, creating a safe and durable entrance that didn’t compromise the fence’s integrity. This is a perfect example of how professional cat enclosures are tailored to solve specific site challenges safely.
The All-Important Cat Net Roof
To complete the enclosure, we installed a full cat net roof. This is a non-negotiable element for ensuring a space is 100% escape-proof. We know our cats are incredible climbers and jumpers, and an open-top enclosure is an invitation for a determined feline to go exploring. The cat net roof seamlessly connects the netting on the walls and fence, creating a fully contained ‘catio’ that allows cats to enjoy the sky and fresh air without any risk. It provides total peace of mind, knowing there are no weak points in the system.
The Final Transformation: A Secure and Serene Outdoor Space
In just seven hours, what was once an unused side passage was transformed into a valuable extension of the home. The homeowner now has a beautiful, secure outdoor area, ready and waiting for their future pets. The low-profile black netting blends into the background, preserving the aesthetic of the garden while providing maximum security. It’s a space where cats can climb, play, and relax in the sun, experiencing all the enrichment of the outdoors without any of the dangers.
Knowing the installation was handled with such attention to detail – from respecting the neighbour’s property to navigating the serious safety issues of an asbestos fence – gives the homeowner complete confidence. They can look forward to bringing their new cats home to a space that was built with their safety as the number one priority. Just as in Banksia Grove WA, where we enhanced an earlier enclosure for returning clients this Woodbridge project shows how each home presents its own challenges and rewards. It’s the perfect start to their life together, right there in their lovely home just a stone’s throw from Harper Park and the Carnegie Triangle.
